Ch. 33: I Owe You What I Owe

“I don’t know. I’m sure nothing will happen during these next three months,” she said, shaking her head, “But no matter what I do with him, please don’t wait for me. It’s impossible between us. You deserve to be with someone better…someone who will love you wholeheartedly…I’m sorry.”

Although she refused to admit it, it’s true that there’s a part of her that still loves Gu Feihan.

“I wanted to invite you in for a cup of tea, but that doesn’t seem appropriate. We can meet again at a later time and place,” Qiao Yu said as she raised her head with a polite smile.

She sent him away and when she returned into the house, she saw Gu Feihan sitting on the sofa, staring at two hard boiled eggs on the coffee table. She walked over, took an egg, and started to peel the shell off.

“I see you came back,” Gu Feihan said with snort.

“Where else would I go,” she asked, chuckling, before rubbing the silt on his face.

“My husband was beaten and he kept protecting me from outsiders instead of letting me fight on my own…I owe him too much. When I fell down the stairs, he saved my life–there shouldn’t be a reason to punch my savior with a fist.”

“That’s what you owe him, not me. What does it have to do with me?”

“What does it have to do with you? If you hadn’t pushed me down, I wouldn’t have to owe him anything,” she instinctively replied and quickly realized that she had opened her scars and quickly changed what she’d said, “Everyone keeps saying that I am your wife. Naturally, what I owe is what you owe. Isn’t it right, then, for my husband to help pay off my debt?”

The last few words succeeded in making the dark clouds above a certain man clear. At that moment, Qiao Yu felt the whole living room suddenly become clear and sunny. She breathed a sigh of relief, but couldn’t help but say, “Can’t you just believe that your wife is happy?”

“If you prove it, I will be happier.”

“Prove, how?”

Gu Feihan moved over and pushed her on the sofa. Before Qiao Yu could resist, he bowed his head and kissed her lips. He then slowly moved his hands over her body.

“Master…,” the housekeeper’s voice was like a basin of cold water suddenly poured on them. Qiao Yu quickly pushed Gu Feihan away and started to tidy her clothes before sitting back down and pretending nothing happened.

“I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean it,” the housekeeper said, more embarrassed than the two of them. She had wanted to call them over to let them know that lunch was ready, but she wasn’t expecting to interrupt a moment between them.

Gu Feihan glanced over with a cold star and told the housekeeper to leave. After what happened, there was no way they could continue. Gu Feihan was annoyed. He missed an opportunity and wondered how much work it would take to have another tender moment together again.

[T/N]: EL. OH. EL. I’m not going to lie, the sudden forgiveness…I’m not really vibing with it. Oh well.
